With the passing of David Bowie a few days ago, people from all over the world have begun doing tributes in all kinds of medias. Yoshitaka Amano, the artist behind Final Fantasy's artwork, was inspired by Bowie's work just like many of us. Ziggy's resting in Mars now.

    Here is his tribute:

Bowie was never my kind of show, but talent is talent, and he had that.
one less original is always hard.

david had a ton of great songs. i mostly liked the covers done of his work as i was more of a metal/goth head in my youth however i know he is the forefather of a lot of trends and his shit was original not a copy or a rehash of anyone. im afraid of americans is always gonna have a place in my heart as do golden years, ziggy stardust and many other songs that were more songs than music. plus who can forget the goBlin king? rest in peace david

While not a fanatic, I do really like some of his stuff. I had no clue he had cancer...another legend bites the dust.

Great find with the artwork. That's another thing I didn't know about until today.

Oh look it's Billy Idol #2! They should totally do cover albums for each other, tho a bit late for that.

Amano's artwork sort of grew on me, whereas I hated it in the beginning.

I felt the same with his work. I never really appreciated it until I got older. Even managed to receive this as a gift some Xmas' ago. I ended up printing some of them as posters for my classroom. Some of my students and I geek out every now and then over FF.

That is one sweet book I'd love to take a look at, and that's pretty cool that you did that, how old are your students? Kinda hard to find younger generation FF fans really, especially ones that know who Amano is.

They're a mix since the school is 6th-12th. It's mainly the older ones (my 10th-12th) who've played. Mainly the remake of 10, some also played 13, and I had one who played the DS remake for 4.
Now I have 6th graders all around so they just thought the art was cool. I encourage the games but it's a tough crowd for the young ones since the images aren't as appealing as modern games. I do try and slip in FF images every now and then in some PowerPoints:p
