    Information below are taken from altema.jp translated by @cekobico in order to provide helpful advice and tips for both GL & JP FFRK players worldwide. Feel free to share it on other social media or forums, and let me know by tagging @cekobico to inform me if there is anything I should update to the main page.

    DISCLAIMER: Since the Altema website discusses strategies for the JP server, some characters/abilities may not be present in the current state of GL server. However, feel free to improvise with what you have. I decided to include them here for the players who want to invest their time in training/honing early in the game as a preparation of what's coming ahead.

    =============================================================================
    LIST OF RECOMMENDED PARTY TEMPLATE
    =============================================================================
    FFRK consists of many popular characters of the franchise, each assigned with various archetypes/jobs of the original games; which leads to a wide-range of party combination.
    Whether you wanna go with melee heroes or magic heroes, you need to plan for each time you enter any dungeon. For this purpose, I will introduce some examples of possible party combinations. Feel free to mix and match the gears you have to maximize your fighting capabilities. I take no credits for creating the whole article, as my job was only translating them, hoping that I could help back the community :D
    ※ RecoMate/Abilities/Heroes' names in brackets may be used as substitute if you're unable to recreate exact combinations.
    ※The names of the RecoMate & Abilities follows the translation listed here.
    =============================================================================

    =============================================================================
    SET 1: Magic + Phys Party (with lv80 Cloud)
    =============================================================================
    Taking advantage of Cloud, who recently able to undergo second Limit Break to lv 80, now you can tackle dungeon, even those around difficulty level of 100++
    [IMG]
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Strategy
    • By utilizing the RecoMate of Summoner, Black Mage, & White Mage, you can deal continuous large damage to the enemies.
    • You can also casting Quake/Summon Magic to clear the trash mobs preceding the boss.
    • The mages shall proceed to hit Cloud after applying Retaliate, once all abilities have emptied up.
    • Start by using Launch and your -Ja BM spells at the Boss. Combine this by utilizing the Retaliate method; casting Armor/Mental Breakdown at the boss and buffing your Cloud with Boost / Water's Power(力の水).
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Proper Dungeon
    Daily Dungeon, EX, or even EX+
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Advantage
    Thanks to utilizing the RecoMate system and Retaliate method, you won't have any problem getting through each battles.
    Whether the boss have elemental weakness or not, it is possible to brute-force your way to victory as long as you honed your abilities sufficiently.
    Disadvantage
    Nada!
    =============================================================================

    =============================================================================
    SET 2: Physical Damage All-purpose Party #1
    =============================================================================
    Combination of 3 Phys + BM + WM
    [IMG]
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Strategy
    • Exploit the Retaliate method during the to clear the trash mobs preceding the boss in order to preserve your abilities.
    • You can also casting Quake/Summon Magic to clear the trash mobs preceding the boss.
    • Start the boss stage by using Launch and your Spellblades, and then shift to Retaliate method to so you can still deal consistent damage.
    • Don't forget to use Water's Power to boost the attack state of your Retaliating hero. Josef's RecoMate 'Consecutive Hits' have a chance to doubles your normal attack hits at reduced damage, which will helps once you ran out of Double Cut abilities.
    • If you don't have access to orbs needed to make -Ja spells, feel free to use -Ra or -Ga spells.
    • Feel free to interchange the Retaliator role to either Sephiroth or Cloud or any other heroes capable of equipping Retaliate to suit your needs.
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Proper Dungeon
    Daily Dungeon or perhaps, dungeons with difficulty level of up to 50
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Advantage
    Since majority of the members are melees (heck, even better if you can equip Rinoa & Selphie with their melee magic weapons), you can easily auto clear...as long as it is not Elite.
    You don't need a lot of honing as well, so it this combination is easy to build.
    Disadvantage
    You will have a hard time fighting against enemies with high defense, ranged-enemies from a far, or enemies with high magic attack (as they will cripple your Resistance). Therefore, dungeons with high difficulty level are not recommended.
    =============================================================================

    =============================================================================
    SET 3: Physical Damage All-purpose Party #2
    =============================================================================
    Combination of 2 Phys + Support + BM + WM
    [IMG]
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Strategy
    • Basically a variation to the Physical Damage All-purpose Party #1. Same strategy still applies, albeit minor changes.
    • Assigning one person to enhance the overall capacity of your party members will increase your stability against the more formidable enemies.
    • This way, you can take out Support spells out of your healer and let her focus on healing. Along with Aerith's RecoMate, you can also equip Dia-based spells to even boost your damage output.
    • If you feel the need for damage mitigation, switch out Dia-based spells for Protectga or Shellga.
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Proper Dungeon
    Daily Dungeon, dungeons with difficulty level above 50, EX, EX+
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Advantage
    This is the most versatile build for tackling majority of the contents, from early-game to late-game contents. With this build, both your Support and Healer can optimize their function to the fullest.
    Disadvantage
    Long-ranged enemy is almost impossible with this build, because you are relying only on the mages to deal damage. Long-dragged out stages and multiple bosses might cripple this build as well.

    SET 4: Double Dia White Mage Party
    =============================================================================
    Consisting of 2 Phys + 2 WM + 1 Support
    [IMG]
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Strategy
    • Variation to the Physical Damage All-purpose Party #1 & #2. Same basic strategy still applies, albeit minor changes.
    • Now widening the White Magic capabilities, as well as increasing your damage output by using Dia-based spells.
    • Designed to tackle a single boss without with a quicker recovery capability.
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Proper Dungeon
    Daily Dungeon, EX, EX+
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Advantage
    If you feel like honing your Ja-spells, you can leave 'em at home and still deal decent amount of damage using Dia-based spells. Also, now that the support capabilities is even more larger, it's easier to adjust the balance between your offense and defense.
    Disadvantage
    Obviously useless against bosses that nulls Holy elemental damage. Not suitable to tackle long-ranged fights either.
    =============================================================================

    =============================================================================
    SET 5: Magic Maker Party
    =============================================================================
    Consisting of Tanker + BM + BM Support + Summoner + WM
    [IMG]
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Strategy
    • Placing all firepowers to the Black Magic and Summon Magic spells to kill the enemy with burst damage.
    • Let Kirin summon handle recovery of the team while you deplete them spells at enemies
    • Boost the survivability of your fragile mages by letting Tyro abuse the combination of Charm (aka Provoke) and Retaliate.
    • Using Golbez instead of Tyro may drop your endurance, but the damage output may be greater.
    • Should the enemies have access to Shell or Reflect, use Dispel right away.
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Proper Dungeon
    Daily Dungeon, dungeons with difficulty level above 60, EX, EX+
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Advantage
    Insanely high damage output, if you decide to go with this build.
    Ranged bosses and multiple boss will seem like cake. Charm+Retaliate will ensure no damage will hit your casters who probably have low HP.
    Disadvantage
    Honing all of your -Ja and -Ra spells, even the -Ra spells will not be an easy task, you need to have an immeasurable of patience to fully make use of this party combination. Also, you need to have good rods/staves because the majority of your damage will rely on them as well.
    =============================================================================

    =============================================================================
    SET 6: Long-Ranged Attacker Party
    =============================================================================
    Needs Lightning's signature weapon, Blazefire Saber, for this setup to be optimal.
    [IMG]
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Strategy
    • This combination attempt to optimize ranged physical damage against any enemies unreachable by melee attack.
    • Lightning with her signature gunblade, Blazefire Saber, will allow her to do ranged Spellblade attack, Kain's Jump will reach the ranged enemy, Tifa proceeds to cast Aurablast after buffing herself with Chakra.
    • Meanwhile, Sazh will strip down enemy's offense and defense with Break(down) abilities (make sure he equips guns).
    • Optimally, using Aerith's signature armor "Memento Ribbon" allows her to cast her SB "Planet Protector" which increase everyone's attack by 100%. Alternatively, Garnet can be used in her place; as her default SB "Song from the Memory" increase everyone's attack by 20%.
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Proper Dungeon
    Dungeons with ranged boss for example, FF7 Realm "Under Junon"
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Advantage
    Easy to hone the skills, as well as capable of debilitating even the most threatening ranged bosses.
    Disadvantage
    Damage output may be lower, compared to builds that rely on mages. Feel free to swap out Kain/Tifa with your strongest mages.
    =============================================================================

    =============================================================================
    SET 7: Early-game to Mid-game Exploit Party
    =============================================================================
    A party combination made of default characters.
    [IMG]
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Strategy
    • A build aimed at people who just started the game. This build will help you catch up quickly.
    • Start with Wakka casting Boost on Cloud while he activates Retaliate. Have the rest of the party hit on him when inactive, while Rydia exploit enemy's weakness with her spells.
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Proper Dungeon
    Suitable for dungeons or events with difficulty level of 30; or Normal Daily Dungeon
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Advantage
    Exploiting the Retaliate method as soon as possible to get the upperhand, while slowly trying to get better equips as you head towards endgame.
    Disadvantage
    This build is too frail to sustain for a long time and meant to help newer players advance as soon as possible with as low resources as possible. It is advised to build your favorite party combinations as your event character rosters are increasing.
    =============================================================================

    Disclaimer: these builds are not mandatory and hopes to inspire you on how you wanna build your team around. Feel free to improvise to suit your needs.

    I feel like for that first, "ideal" set up, it would be better for Cloud to have some kind of break for his second skill (whether Armor/Mental, or even Power if Protectga is not enough for a very hard-hitting melee boss). Why is Launch worth the slot?

    Curious about something. I noticed that Joseph's RM "self sacrifice" is included often in the above party's. Many times in fact . Is it that good? I have never used it. I mean they even include it on mages above. Why is that? I don't see this RM as being anything special yet it's listed 7 times .

    It's always suggested for whomever does the heaviest physical output, and yes, it's quite good because it gives you a strong boost with a reasonable drawback (Sap will cost you half the max HP of the character, even if it's a very long dungeon, but you get permanent +10% ATK/DEF).

    It does give out a far better damage output. Personally it's not bad, it helped me out during the Edea fight.

    Given the fact that the negative effect of Self-sacrifice is easily overwritten by Regen status, plus effectively making your character stronger offensive AND defensively, it is considered a good RM to use.
    RMs like SOLDIER strike adds increases damage output by about 10%, while Self-Sacrifice increases stats of ATK and DEF by 10%, something to note here. (This means that characters with higher base stats definitely benefit more from Self-Sacrifice)

    Hello!
    Would it be possible to update this guide once 2AC event is over?

    Also, I think the forums should sticky a thread which guides newbies / returning players on how to post for party-building or relic-pulling requests.

    I came across these articles on reddit, and it sounds a good idea! But I'm not sure if just copy-pasting these links would translate to correct display here in the forums. They even include templates for requestors to fill in as well.
    https://www.reddit.com/r/FFRecordKeeper/comments/60qbrt/suggested_format_for_party_help_requests/
    https://www.reddit.com/r/FFRecordKe...te_for_team_building_relic_pulling_questions/

    Naturally, party-building would be part of the Party Help thread category, while relic-pulling belongs under Characters & Equipment. So, how does this idea sound?
