Posting up a thread, hoping for some feedback from the longtime veterans.

With the release of the upcoming Machinist shells in the next few months, can the Global players get some thoughts and feedback on Machinists and their skills? How do they rate in terms of usefulness? Will Machinists be a half-support/half-combat mix?

Just looking for some tips and suggestions to help plan for orb usage/leveling up of future chars.
    Please and thanks!

They are basically better busters with a high chance to inflict status ailments like, Silence, Confuse, Blind and Poison. Nifty for some characters, and widens the possibility pool on who to bring to fight. There is a nice looking 5* ability that hits all twice and has a medium chance to poison all. I think the multiplier is 2.4, and I'd like it myself eventually..maybe. The 4* abilities all look great, but I really have no clue how often we'll get a chance to use status abilities against the tough bosses that matter, seeing as the hard guys are usually immune anyway. Hopefully a JP player can chime in here and add to this.

My current experience with Global has led me to agree with Elskidor. I have NEVER even used the Busters, because they're completely unnecessary. If you need to inflict statuses on a boss, then the 1* spells often suffice, and then, most of the bosses that have Special Scores with ailments can either be ignored, or inflicted by an SB, etc. Faris can learn Machinist skills with Record Dive though, so maybe I'll mess with them one day down the line. ^^

Busters have the same proc chance as the 1* Spells, though. :p
The 4* ShotsShells have a 1.9x multiplier, 60% of applying the stats (twice as much as the Busters), and if the target is already afflicted with the status at the time of cast, their multiplier soars further to a very reasonable 2.4x (for a 4* Ability, it's just behind Armor Strike and Bonecrusher which both have gimmicks or downsides).
As for Bio Grenade, it's two 1.2x hits (so a respectable total of 2.4x) with a bad chance to Poison (20%) and, more importantly, it's Bio-elemental which is great for some fights (looking at you, early Seifer/Fujin/Rajin fights).

All in all, they are pretty good and worth investing! :D

Haha, I know. I guess I'm still stuck in Old School mode though, since I left at a time when 3*s were still not the easiest to come by. :p I guess it's a different story now, as they kinda rain down from the sky these days. It'll probably be a while until I have the 4*s to invest in the Machinist Skills (and even longer until Faris' Record Dive >w<) but if it's a 60% chance, then I guess that outweighs the 'cons' in my eyes!

They added it to machine-inclined people like Edgar, Laguna, Balthier, Rikku, Zidane and a few others. I'm still miffed Zell didn't make the cut, though, as it would have given him a clear niche.
Ah, by the way, so far all Machinist Abilities are innately ranged.

All 4* but Confuse Shot (which doesn't use Power at all) have Power as the main Orb, yeah. I don't remember about Bio Grenade; but anyways, twin R3 is relatively cheap to attain with R1 freely gifted.

Well once I start RWing Scream I will be able to drop Red XIII from my team since I will no longer need his Hastega. Prior to getting Diamond Pin my go to Support was Setzer because duh Swords. Well according to MisterPs spreadsheet it looks like Setzer will be getting Machinist 5 to go along with his Support 5. It seems like a no brainer to slide him back in as my primary Support. Unless of course RNGesus has different plans for me and I pull a relic that steers me in a different direction.
